Every year there are hundreds of thousands of animals in need of our help. It’s easy to remember the pets in need of aid, but sometimes it is harder to remember that wildlife requires human intervention.
There are dozens of organizations out there keeping these fights for animal rights and welfare going strong. The top four animal and wildlife organizations making a significant impact in 2021 are:
The ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) has been making a significant impact, especially in New York City, where it has a shelter. The organization has several animal placement programs, as well as animal protection programs. These programs have resulted in saving thousands of animals’ lives across America.
At the time of this writing, the ASPCA has relocated over 27,000 animals, have played a role in over 300K animals receiving help from Animal Poison Control Centers, and have performed over 40,000 spay/neuter surgeries.
International Fund for Animal Welfare
This organization’s mission is to improve the welfare of domestic and wild animals around the globe. The IFAW does this by working alongside volunteers and experts to protect wildlife habitats, reduce the exploitation of animals for commercial purposes, and assist wildlife and domestic animals in distress.
In 2021, one of the most extensive campaigns the IFAW is working on is to protect the world’s oceans. The IFAW is currently working with experts around the globe to come up with solutions to save the ocean and the animals that call it home.
Puppies Behind Bars
Puppies Behind Bars has been around since 1997. The way it works is Puppies Behind Bars teaches prisoners how to train puppies. The puppies remain with the prisoners for up to 28 months or as little as eight weeks. Once the puppies are trained, they are provided to first responders and/or veterans to serve as service dogs.
Jane Goodall Institute
The Jane Goodall Institute leads the way in charitable work that protects apes and their habitats. The organization has several programs in various areas to help apes. These areas include gender and health Conservation, conservation science, Healthy habitats, and animal advocacy.
The Jane Goodall Institute has received many awards and accolades throughout the years. Not only that, but the organization’s work has inspired many other nonprofits to change the way they work to be more efficient.
Jane Goodall founded the organization, and even though she is no longer as active in the organization as she once was, her work is still carried out to the highest standards possible.
